Certifications:
Assurance by an accredited third party other than the producer itself, that a given product will perform according to the criteria dictated by dominant standards and regulations.

Certain insurance firms, seeing that reaction and resistance to fire tests do not suffice to determine fire safety properties of products, have created more detailed and comprehensive fire testing systems which also incorporate the existing tests and standards.

These programmes not only certifies any given product but also approves the quality assurance system which will ensure that production will always achieve same quality levels.

Factory Mutual (FM)

FM Global, is an international insurance and risk management firm. Starting with the risk assessment of a customer, FM develops and recommends necessary loss prevention systems and in doing so helps the customers manage their risks. Major activity areas are:

Insurance
Risk management
Loss prevention systems
Product testing and certification (FM Approvals)

FM Approvals
Global system that tests and certifies “loss prevention” products against a set of standards.

FM Approval : Fire Resistance Classification

FM 4880 : Class 1 Fire Rating of insulated wall or wall and roof/ceiling panels, interior finish materials or coatings, and exterior wall systems

Kingspan panel systems are capable of achieving FMRC
4880 Class 1 approval for unlimited height .

Certified suppliers are regularly monitored and audited for quality after approval.

LPCB – Loss Prevention Certification Board

LPCB was purchased by UK BRE (Building Research Establishment) from previous owners ABI (Association of British Insurers) and Lloyds in March 2000

LPCB is an independent council that provides global testing and certification for fire safety, security, construction and environmental protection products.

LPS 1181 is a wall and ceilings test to evaluate insulated panels.

ABI, classifies structures built with LPCB-certified panels as non-combustible buildings.

Kingspan panel systems have achieved LPS 1181
certification.

Observations after LPCB test LPS1181

Kingspan panels after a full scale LPS1181 test,
have yielded the following facts:

No spread of flame and fire travel within the core between facings.
At high temperatures greater then 300°C protective char forms.
Panels are unaffected away from main fire source.
Char/core expands to fill any gap between facings, consequently no voids. Does not shrivel or perish as in some other core types.
Fire rated rigid IPN core, 70% unaffected, only 30% char at 1000°C
